As one of the last craftsman to practice the rope technique, Xavier Maffre molds clay around wooden rods, protected by ropes, and fires the objects in a kiln, where the ropes lend to an intricate and unique imprint within the interior of the object. For this Mark of Time stool, Stephane Parmentier has asked Xavier Maffre to bring to the forefront the impressions of the rope technique to the exterior of the stool.
